Marine Docent Program

Can you imagine sailing Great Bay on the University's research vessel, the Gulf Challenger? Are you intrigued by tidepool critters? Do you want to help others learn to conserve the marine and coastal environments? If these questions pique your interest, then you may want to become a UNH Marine Docent, a community outreach volunteer sponsored by the UNH's Sea Grant and Cooperative Extension program. Docents are educated by university faculty, extension educators, and other experts in the marine field to present programs and tours for students, teachers, and the general public on various ocean topics.

No prior marine experience is necessary—just interest, dedication and a willingness to learn. Become involved in the marine world for six to 10 hours a week. Training begins in early September each year. To apply to the Marine Docent Program or to arrange a Sea Trek program for your group, contact Barbara Pinto-Maurer, Kingman Farm/UNH, Durham, NH 03824; (603) 749-1565; (email) Barbara.Pinto@unh.edu; www.unh.edu/marine-education/.
